Reposting

Image transformations

This is the most technical part of reposting, and the most decisive. Vinted compares photos between listings; if the fingerprint is identical, the listing can be removed as a duplicate.

The goal of these settings: change the fingerprint without changing what the buyer sees.

The settings that are on by default

These four are on out of the box because they are effective and invisible. Leave them.

SettingDefault valueEffect
Slight rotation1° to 3°An imperceptible tilt, enough to change the fingerprint
Auto zoom on rotationOnCrops after rotation to avoid empty corners
Slight crop5% off each edgeChanges the framing without cutting the subject
Micro-variationsIntensity 4Imperceptible noise that breaks fingerprint comparison
BorderWhite, 10 pxChanges the image dimensions

The settings that are off by default

To be turned on case by case, but none of them is essential.

Resize (1200 × 1600 max) — reduces the weight of the photos. Useful if your photos are enormous and uploads drag; pointless otherwise.

Compress (quality 85) — same logic. Careful: compressing degrades, and the degradation piles up if you repost often.

Shuffle the photo order — the first photo stays fixed (it is the thumbnail), the following ones change order. Effective, with no visible effect for the buyer.

Horizontal mirror — flips the image. Very effective against detection, but visible: text on clothes becomes unreadable back to front, and asymmetries jump out. Reserve it for photos with no text.

Blurred frame — adds a blurred outline around the image. Changes the appearance noticeably; test it before applying it everywhere.

Metadata (EXIF)

Your photos contain invisible information: camera model, capture date, and sometimes the GPS position of your home.

Three choices:

ModeEffect
KeepThe original metadata is kept
Remove (default)Everything is erased
FalsifyA credible profile is written instead

Remove is the right setting for almost everyone. It is also a protection for your privacy: a photo taken at home with a geolocated phone publishes your address.

The Falsify mode writes plausible metadata (make, model, capture date) so the photo looks like it came out of a phone. You can choose the simulated device and a fake GPS position. It is subtler than a total absence of metadata, but the difference is marginal.

Getting the dose right

The default setting suits almost everyone. It changes the fingerprint without the buyer noticing anything.

If you have already had removals for duplication:

  1. First switch to Draft only — that is the most effective lever.
  2. Turn on Shuffle the photo order.
  3. Raise the rotation angle and the crop percentage slightly.
  4. Space your reposts out more and lower the daily limit.

If your listings look less attractive than before:

  1. Check that the cloud backup is active on those items — that is most often the real cause.
  2. Turn compression off.
  3. Reduce the crop to 2-3%.

What these settings do not do

They do not make a bad photo attractive and they do not replace a good listing. They prevent a technical removal, nothing more. Cutting out, retouching and staging happen elsewhere — see The Poster on the dashboard.
